  • David Rooney | Feb 5, 2016 at 3:39 pm

Maurice White and EWF brought so much infectious joy to those of us lucky enough to bask in the reflected light of his Shining Star. We wore out the EWF records at my house in the mid-late 70s and never stopped cranking up an EWF song whenever or wherever we heard it. A simple thank you for sharing your gifts with all of us.

The music of my childhood, adolescence and still now. Me and my kids have danced to his music until now. I’ve seen them live so many times. And they kept on going. But without Maurice White the great EW&F aren’t what they were back then. He gave the world so much joy and happiness with his music and performance. A great and very influencial musical genius has left us. I miss him so much. He meant a lot to me.

today i shed a single tear… of sorrow.. of pain. it made a splash upon my soul, that formed a puddle the grew and grew and flooded my very being with grief. a single tear that did so much as a single being that meant so much to oh so many. but very shortly my feelings of loss and remorse were soon engulfed in light and i smiled. i remembered the lessons you taught me, the many soulful and meaningful words that you spoke to me in my private moments, most personal moments as well as my most public moments. The way you made me dance, made me sing at the top of my lungs, and strive to be the best, the very best me i can be. the same words you spoke to the world to encourage us all to make this plane of existance a better place, not just for us but for each other. Thank you my brother. I won’t say good bye for i, we have only been deprived of your physical presence for you my brother shall forever be with us. take your journey my friend. rest assured you have left us inspired to make a better day.

I first discovered the music and lyrics of Earth Wind & Fire sitting on the hardwood floor, in front of the stereo during my childhood. As I read the lyrics of “Devotion” on the sleeve of my mom’s album as a ten year old, I felt a connection with
their music that has remained throughout my life. I didn’t realize it back then, but the connection was spiritual. Thank you Maurice White for sharing your beautiful, GOD given gifts with the world and for creating one of the most dynamic bands in existence.Thank you for providing the background music of my life, your musical works are eternal ,rest in peace.

  • Brandon Johnson | Feb 5, 2016 at 6:44 pm

  • Samuel Levi | Feb 5, 2016 at 7:37 pm

I was in high school and college in the 70s to early 80s. I remember vividly getting out of school, getting in my car and cranking up EW&F while driving across Mulholland Drive. Not to mention the great dance parties we threw moving to that incredible music. No wonder I still stop and listen anytime I hear EW&F on my radio. Just great memories!! Thank you for those wonderful times in my life!!

  • Uwe Jacobs | Feb 5, 2016 at 7:45 pm

… i still remember, it was at the dancing school’s discoparty in 1979 when the the DJ played A.T.L.H.G. – IT HIT ME LIKE A STONE. I asked the DJ who’s the singer ..? His answer granted me the soundtrack of my life and lifetime – The MOST outstanding musical experience one possibly can get, conceive, feel, enjoy, anticipate, cherish, appreciate, etc, – Maurice White was my musical hero ! Ruhe in Frieden. Pe@ce !

  • Fred Mueller | Feb 5, 2016 at 7:58 pm

I was lucky to be alive in the same frame as this man … We loved his exuberant music so very much, of course. Such an ecstatic and extravagant sound !

But even more, Maurice was the embodiment of the brotherhood of all people, and a herald that one day THIS world just might transition to grace – if enough of us “get the message loud and clear”

“another heaven and another earth must pass before such a one can be again” – Wlilliam Beebe

Some of your songs, they raised my mind
to cloudless skies of peace and pride
    evolving rainbow colored faith
to guide my love on truthful ways

Your songs, they led this heart of mine
    to meadows waving drewdrops shine
to keep alive my trust and hopes
    in magical caleidoscopes

Between those songs, but all around,
    like shining sparks, Kalimba sounds.

Some of your songs, they took my soul
to valleys bathed in sunrise gold
where dreams may root and grow like trees
    encircled by your melodies

Your songs, they made my body dance
    through groovy boogie wonderlands
    spellbound by thousand harmonies
ruled by the voice of JamboReese

Once all your songs will meet as one
to send a spark to Egypt´ s sun
REese´s light keeps shining, warm and true
Inside your songs, inside of you.

  • Manuel Bandelli | Feb 5, 2016 at 8:18 pm

May your soul have a wonderful journey.

I once heard Verdine say in an interview, “music is recorded history”. Maurice White and EWF had a profound affect on my life and anyone growing up in the 1970’s. My favorite band of all time and although I’m sure he heard it from fans thousands of times, I regret that I never got to meet you Maurice, so I could tell you personally just how much your music impacted my life. May God Bless the White family, his bandmates, and EWF fans everywhere.

  • David McConaghy | Feb 5, 2016 at 9:17 pm

Your music makes me happy 🙂

  • Michael A. Lujan | Feb 5, 2016 at 9:20 pm

The first time I heard EWF I had no idea who it was. the sound I heard in this music changed my life. I suddenly wanted to be a musician. I had to be a part of the gift that God gave Maurice White. I first played the piano then the trumpet then the drums. I could not get enough of it I was self taught and learned most of my chops playing along with all the EWF ep’s. so though most would consider me self taught I consider myself taught by Maurice, and Verdine as I have been playing the bass guitar soon after I started being a student of their music. I along with the rest of the EWF/ Maurice following will remember him / and them as a part of our lives. God Bless all who are his loved ones and family and to those of us who will miss him and the beautiful music he might have created.

  • George Vasquez | Feb 5, 2016 at 9:30 pm

I’ve been a fan of the band since my childhood in the early 70’s and I cannot say how much it pains me to hear of Maurice’s passing. So many songs and so many lyrics that touch our hearts and spirits. The music of Earth, Wind & Fire always had that special and unique quality to transcend people, space, time and souls. What gives your music so much more meaning to me now is that even my son grew up to be a fan of Maurice and the band; that alone speak volumes when it comes to measure your huge success in a time when there is such a difference in musical tastes between younger and older generations. Eternal peace to you Maurice and may God be your guide throughout the ultimate journey. Thank you Maurice and to all members of Earth Wind & Fire, past and present, for the music, the words, the memories; thank you most of all for “sharing the spice of life”. There will never be anyone like Maurice, never…

  • Francesco Argento | Feb 5, 2016 at 10:15 pm

  • Pat Person | Feb 5, 2016 at 11:25 pm

I remember the first time I saw EWF in Concert back in the mid 1970’s. As a recent HS graduate it was the first time that I had ventured out to “see the world” and was completely awe-struck by what I was seeing. Hearing the music on the record (yes, vinyl) was nothing compared to the reality of the live show. As I matured, the EWF albums continued to provide companionship, inspiration, and guidance. Once I was married and had children, I made sure that I introduced them to the music that had played an important role in my life. Now, 40+ years later, I still look forward to my next EWF experience, and will be sharing the next one with my granddaughter. I thank you, Mr. White, for having the vision and determination to create this magic that, after reading so many of the other comments, has been shared by so many. Your legacy will continue as long as the mighty elements continue to shine. I will forever be grateful that EWF has been a part of my life, and for that, I thank you. You have been missed from the stage for a few years now, but will be missed even more now. If there is a “Rock and Roll Heaven” that helluva band just added an amazing new member!

    (to Maurice White)

    Badeya, badeay,
so much joy in ev´ry day,
hear our song, take some time,
earth stands still, join our rhyme.

Many ways for you to run,
you`re a sparkling beam of sun,
cross the wind through clouds and cold,
    spread your spirits shining gold.

    Knowing world demands a lot,
don´t you fall in trustless trott,
light`s the source for shades of blue
world will give all back to you.

    And God´s loving flame inside,
of you heart will be your guide,
    creates fellowship and pride,
    shines, enlightens you so bright,
shines all night, shines all day,

    badeya, badeay,
    badeya, badeay

  • Tony | Feb 6, 2016 at 1:49 am

Maurice, you have touched so many lives! From your early days with The Ramsey Lewis Trio, right on through The Salty Peppers, and even the later solo works! You’ve “opened our eyes” to the “evil” of this world, but also brought so much joy and “happy feelings”, encouraging us to “keep our heads to the sky”…A world without you in it will be a lesser world now in some ways, but the world is a greater place for you having been in it in the first place…I will be listening to “Spirit” often over the next few days…But like you, I still think “Faces” is the best one…Your “pride” and “devotion” to the band was admirable, and I’ll admit, other than the last track on that first Warner Brothers album, you never wrote a “bad tune”…I loved your music for many “reasons”, but mostly for your message of love, peace and brotherhood among men…You were a “shining star” who shined brighter than most! I pray that you have found peace…May “the guiding lights take you” to a new realm in Heaven, and may our Heavenly Father have mercy on us all…Your love, though, should be an example for all of us to follow, so we can become our own shining stars, lighting the way of truth, and being candles in the darkness…To Verdine, Ralph, and the rest of the band, your music has meant so much to me over the years, I can never thank you all enough for the joy you’ve brought to my life…Just know that your brother, friend, and mentor Maurice is in a better place, and that his vision and music will continue to have a ripple effect through time, encouraging and strengthening new legions of fans the world over…I wish you all nothing but peace, love, and the greatest music ever made…Music that would not be possible without the talents and spirit of one Maurice White…Rest in peace, sir! You will not be forgotten!!!

  • Tchando Embalo | Feb 6, 2016 at 1:51 am

My heart is really bleeding. My name is Tchando. I come from Guinea-Bissau, a tiny countre situated in West Africa south of Senegal.
I grew up with Earth Wind and Fire, with Maurice White… his voice, his drummer, his kalimba and his abilities as a producer. To me he was the respected guide of is band. Down to earth, he will be remembered forever, and forever, and forever…

  • Mick Stringer | Feb 6, 2016 at 2:07 am

Maurice, you and the band really were the ‘way of the world’!! RIP

  • Michele | Feb 6, 2016 at 2:12 am

la nostra vita non sarà mai più la stessa da quando tu hai solcato le nostre anime, ci hai accompagnato per 40 anni della nostra vita musicale.. ed hai cambiato il nostro modo di essere..
    Please Maurice.. come back… please…
